At Tires Michel, we are happy to help you find the perfect 4×4 tires.

The different types of 4×4 tires

Each 4×4 and SUV has its own character and needs depending on your needs and driving habits.
For this reason, we offer a variety of tire types.

Road tires for 4×4 and SUVs (H/T or S/T)

These tires are “regular tires” and are specifically designed for daily transportation with SUVs. They are not that different from passenger car tires. They offer a balanced combination of durability, grip and comfort for daily use. You can count on reliable performance with these tires. They are perfect for asphalt roads thanks to their asymmetrical tread pattern. Choose a summer tire, winter tire or four-season tire here depending on your plans.

UHP SUV (Ultra High Performance) tires.

For those who love speed and performance, there are our UHP (Ultra High Performance) SUV tires. These tires are made for powerful SUVs, where outstanding cornering grip, precision and responsiveness are key. They are unbeatable if you often take to the motorway, make long trips and have a sporty driving style. If you like to test the power of your car, then these tires are for you.

Offroad tires (A/T or M/T)

If you seek real adventure, off-road tires are the right choice. These tires are rugged and designed to handle the most challenging terrains. With deeper treads and reinforced sidewalls, they offer superior traction and resistance to sharp rocks and other obstacles. They also better withstand the wear and tear of off-road riding. So if you like to seek out the mud, this is the match for you.

Terrain tires

Terrain tires are the perfect middle ground between road and off-road capabilities. They are suitable for a mix of road and off-road use, with a balance of 50% road use and 50% off-road performance. You can recognize these tires by features such as ATR, AT2, A/T or All Terrain markings. They offer good grip and handling on a variety of surfaces, from forests to fields, and are ideal for those who like variety in their riding conditions.

Note: For 4-wheel drive vehicles, it is extremely important that the difference in tread depth between the front and rear tires is limited. If the difference is too big (+2mm) you risk costs to your differential / gearbox. We always recommend to replace them per 4. (Also with a view to brand warranty)

TIP: If you choose 4 new tires, always have the alignment of your 4×4 checked. Proper alignment increases the efficiency of your tires and reduces fuel consumption.

Recognize your tire size

You can easily read the tire size on your current tires. It can be found on the sidewall or flanks and consists of a series of numbers and letters that give information about the size and capacity. This information comes in a concatenation that looks something like this: 265/65R18 114T

  • 265: width of the tire in mm
  • 65: height ratio in % to width (= 65% of 265mm)
  • R: R stands for radial and D stands for diagonal. These should never alternate on the same axis.
  • 18: diameter of the rim in inches
  • 114: LI or load index says how much weight a tire can carry (114 = 1180 kg)
  • T: speed index or speed code expresses maximum permissible speed (T = 190 km/h)

With this information you can easily order new tires at Banden Michel or make an appointment. Still not entirely clear? Come by and one of our mechanics will be happy to help you.
